Knock! Knock! Who's there?!

In my case it was "Knock! Ngoc! who's there...?"
Hi everyone! Welcome to my first blog post! I thought I start off with a little self introduction so you can get to know me better.
My name is Ngoc (pronounced like Knock). I am currently 22 years old and I'm 100% Vietnamese. I was born and raised in Vietnam, till I was 5 years old; when my family moved to the United States.
The name "Ngoc" is my Vietnamese name, but since it starts with an "Ng" it was hard for people to pronounce it right. Everyone tried to pronounce my name and nobody could ever say it right.  When I was younger one of my close friend called me "Knock" and it just stuck.  Since then I tell everyone my name is "Knock" but its still written like "Ngoc." I guess you can just say the "g" is silent. ;) hehe
Any who, this is my first time starting a blog.  I've always wanted to have a blog but I never really knew what to write about, and I was scared people were going to judge me about things....but one day I was like "f*** it! I'm gonna do it and I don't care what people say or think!" Now I can say "at least I tried..." hehe
Who knows where this blog will take me, but I hope it'll make a big difference in my life and maybe in others lives also.  I just want to share my experiences with everyone, because I believe you learn through experiences.  I hope to gain lots of experiences with my blog and from everyone I meet along the way.
If you have any questions or advice for me, please don't hesitate to ask or write to me. I'm looking forward to making lots of new friends and meet lots of people!

(P.S. sorry if I wrote to much... hehe)

  XOXO

  1. Also, I can actually empathize with you on this subject. I am a Southern Appalachian American, which is a very unique culture (even though most people, including Americans, don't know that my culture is different from just regular Southern culture), and my name has always been pronounced like the word been, because we emphasize the letter e in our dialect. People from the Northern US pronounce my name like ban, and it really gets on my nerves.

  2. Thank you for writing this em Ngoc. I have a good friend named Ngoc, who goes by her middle name with people who speak English. However, I believe it to be one of the most basic forms of respect to pronounce someone's name correctly, and that a friend should put forth the effort to do so. I plan on moving to HCM to teach English within 2 years, and love Vietnamese culture.
    Thanks,
    Ben
